You may have great tools, lists, or workflow management software at your disposal. But, you won’t feel productive until and unless you are in the right mindset to work. 1. Create a Dedicated Workspace
Working in front of your laptop while lazing around on the couch or the bed is not a good practice. Those are places of relaxation and your body as well as mind associate those places with rest and ease. Working from these areas will not only hamper your productivity but may also mess up your sleep schedules. So, it is always advisable to create a dedicated workspace or work-from-home station in one corner of your house. If possible, try to set up your work station near a window where there is plenty of sunlight. Studies have shown that sunlight boosts the efficiency of work and puts your mind in a happy space.
2. Bring Nature Indoors While You Work From Home
Green elements like potted plants and succulents have positive effects on your productivity. These air-filtering plants keep the work station oxygenated and help you keep negative thoughts at bay. Plants not only boost mood and work efficiency but also help by filtering out nasty pollutants. In fact, this NASA Study has found that indoor plants play an important role in the removal of organic chemicals in the indoor air. You can also further optimize your work corner by adding a wooden planter to organize your greens.
3. Stick to a Routine
How prolific you are at your job depends on how consistent you are in following a structured schedule. Because you work from home right now doesn’t mean you should work at any time you want to. It is important to stick to a routine if you want to effectively work from home. This trains your body and brain to distinguish between work-time and me-time. And that ensures you don’t feel lazy or sleepy during your work hours. Working from home vs working from office might have certain differences but sticking to a structured schedule isn’t one of them. Also, make sure that you are not working in your PJs all day. When you shower and dress up, it is a signal for your brain that your day has begun. It then becomes easier to focus on your work without letting your concentration waver.
4. Take 10-minute Breaks From Gadgets
Maintaining a proper work-life-balance is straightforward when you are working from an office. You have the option of leaving your work at the office and relaxing when you come home. But, when you are working from home, there is a possibility that the lines between work-life-balance become blurred. It is critical to take frequent breaks from gadgets to rest your body and mind. Not doing so will lead to fatigue and hamper your remote working productivity.
